VHS Chords Sample Pack

Sample Pack Details

VHS Chords is a free collection of 700 experimental chord samples and chord progressions made to sound like they were recorded onto old cassette tapes, VHS recordings, vinyl records and reel-to-reel machines. It is a culmination of years of synthesizing chord samples from scratch that never actually made it into a pack, now dug up, sorted and given away royalty-free. Everything has that warm, slightly wobbly, nostalgic feel: a little hiss, a little crackle, and the soft pitch drift you get from aging tape. The samples are dreamy and emotional and they sit well in ambient, lo-fi, chillwave, house, and other style of electronic music.

The first part of the sample pack is 600 one-shot chords, 50 in every key. Each one is a different chord, played by a different instrument and run through its own mix of old-media character, space, and effects. You’ll find electric pianos, organs, string and synth pads, choirs, guitars, harps, music boxes, vibraphones, and more. They range from short stabs to long, evolving pads, and they use rich chords like 7ths, 9ths, 11ths, and 13ths as well as simple ones. Every file is meticulously named with its key and chord, so you can find what you need quickly and drop it straight into your project.

The second part of the sample pack is 100 full 16-bar chord progressions at tempos from slow ambient (around 56 BPM) to club-ready techno (up to 128 BPM). They’re sorted by mood: ambient and cinematic, downtempo and dream, deep house and synthwave, and techno and electro. Each one is a complete, ready-to-play idea you can loop, chop up, resample, or build a track around. The delays and tremolo follow each progression’s tempo, so they sit naturally in your session.

Whether you want a hazy intro, a nostalgic loop or a moody pad to build a track on, there’s something here for any music producer to start from.
